HOW TO NOMINATE A TREASURE

TULARE COUNTY TREASURES PROJECT
GUIDELINES FOR NOMINATION SUBMITTALS


 Criteria for Treasure Selection (MUST meet all of first four criteria):
  • Natural or cultural (e.g., historical, architectural, archaeological, etc.) resource
  • Located in Tulare County
  • In protected status (e.g., non-profit; federal, state, or local agency), or demonstrably intended to be conserved
  • Open to the public (at least occasionally)
  • Conserved as a result of local action (desirable, but not mandatory)

 Criteria for Submittals:
  • Length: good to start with about 500-800 words
  • Include digital images (crediting the source) of the site when possible
  • Describe the place and the people who worked to conserve and steward it

ALWAYS INCLUDE:
  • Subject/site name
  • Submittal Author/Artist name(s) and contact information
  • Why the site is important/special and why people worked to conserve it
  • Date site was conserved, and key dates in the process
  • What is it?
  • Where is it?
  • Who manages the site (Site Steward), and their contact information
  • Website links, if applicable
  • Applicable categories (e.g., historical, natural, archaeological, etc.)
  • Map to site and map of site, if available
  • Directions to site (include GIS information if available)
  • Days and times open to the public
  • Activities options at the site (e.g., birdwatching, camping, educational activities, hiking, photography, picnicking, etc.)
